BHI

Behavioral Health Integration Services

Behavioral health integration (BHI) is a primary care strategy to improve outcomes from americans suffering from mental and behavioral conditions.

Medicare makes a separate payment to physicians and non-physician practitioners for BHI services they supply to patients over a calendar month service period.

This care management service involves direct and indirect patient contact and allows the practice to get reimbursement while providing constant and high-quality mental health care services.

BHI uses a model that enhances usual primary care by adding two key services to the primary care team, particularly for patients whose conditions aren’t improving.

It supports patients receiving behavioral health treatment, regular psychiatric inter-speciality consultation, a team approach to delivering care.

The components of the program are as follows:

Initial Assessment

Administration of the applicable validated rating scale(s)

Systematic assessment and monitoring using applicable validated clinical rating scales

The primary care team’s joint care planning with the patient, with care plan revision for patients whose condition is not improving

Facilitation and coordination of behavioral health treatment

An ongoing relationship with an appointed member of the care team.
